ALMINHA
INSTALLATION RITUAL
Alminha refers to small altars hidden in the landscape across Portugal. The word itself, literally means “little souls. Both public and intimate, these devotional paces are dedicated to the souls in purgatory, to lost souls in transit, suspended between worlds. The animation comes from instructional craft magazines of the 1950s–1970s portraying crochet diagrams. The artist performs a weekly ritual of giving offerings throughout the duration of the exhibition.
