CRYSTAL PAINTINGS

I utilized heat and chemicals to create these ‘paintings' which are a collection of crystallized chemicals on glass slides. The majority of the chemicals I utilized are over-the-counter pain relievers such as acetaminophen and aspirin. I influenced the crystal patterns shown on the paintings by utilizing varying temperatures and pressure points.

Each crystal painting is
one-of-a-kind.

CRYSTAL PAINTINGS

(INTERACTIVE)

This interactive installation reveals the hidden resplendent patterns found in synthetic crystals. A participant must look at the samples with a special 3D printed hand-held device that exposes the hidden crystal “painting.” This instrument essentially performs as a lens containing a second polarizer. The prismatic phenomenon reveals itself once the viewer successfully crosses the polarized light from both the light box and the hand-held device. In rotating the handheld lens, the amount of light permeating through the instrument alters the colors of the samples, and designs gyrate as the crystals appear to dance.
