 TO GIVE A GARDEN

In the cemetery of Oliveira do Bairro, granite tombs replicate the body as countless women in Oliveira do Bairro attend weekly to care for their loved ones.

My process started by filming my great aunts who, Saturday, clean the graves of our family members in thetown’s local cemetery. They also create elegant flower arrangements with plants from their gardens as offerings for their loved ones who have passed. This weekly ritual was not unique to them, and throughout my visits I began connecting with and documenting several women who also attend regularly and perform this intimate and impactful ceremony.

This work exhibited in Artes - Mota Galiza, a Gallery in Porto, Portugal in the month of October 2022.
