ROAD PORTALS

This two channel video features thousands of images gathered from google street view from places around the world, highlighting the reoccurring man-made structures across the globe such as roads, bridges, and tunnels. The scenes are stitched together to create a surrealist journey through a digitally manipulated version of the earth’s geography. One video showcases a series of tunnels that act as portals that transport the viewer to different landscapes. The second video showcases a collage of seemingly infinite one point perspective roads referencing the renaissance’s one point perspective concepts in traditional paintings. The animated iconic google yellow line, a symbol for the digitization of maps in the internet, transforms into a character the spectator follows throughout the journey.
